The Community Endowment Fund was

established in 1988 to serve the broad non-profit charity community with capital funding and emergency assistance. We have committed to fund worthy community projects in the social services, education, sports, arts and health care sectors.

Living Legacy

When you make a gift to the Community Endowment Fund, the capital remains in tact. Only the net investment income earned is used, thus perpetuating your gift to provide help and hope to people in need for generations.

Assets of the fund are professionally managed by the Community Endowment Fund. The assets are invested to achieve a balance between long-term security of capital, asset growth and a level of annual income that will allow for funding of worthwhile community programs and services.

United Way of Sault Ste. Marie is trustee for the Community Endowment Fund.

Beneficiaries of the Income from the fund...

Designated Funds: as prescribed by Donor
General Donations: as clearly defined by the mandate of the fund for community wide benefit so that prospective donors can know where the income from their donations will be spent.

The Community Endowment Fund provided assistance in 2008 to:

St. John’s Back to Basic’s - funding support for an after school program for students from schools in the west end community around St. John’s Anglican Church. The program offers a safe after school learning and play environment for young children who otherwise would be at home alone and vulnerable.

Kids Hope — funding was provided to develop and promote educational programs that encourages healthy living life styles to children ages 5—13 in community schools.

Exergaming Centre at the Family YMCA — funding was provided to assist with the purchase of new gaming exercise equipment to address the growing issue of obesity in youth. This equipment will motivate youth to exercise and become healthier through new mediums. The room is also available to adults and seniors.
