Many employers capitalize on the United Way campaign to pull their employees together, to enhance employee relations, to work towards a common goal and to create a feeling of supporting their community as an organization.

Most employers participate in the payroll deduction program, which allows employees to deduct a regular amount from each paycheque to fulfill their annual pledge to United Way. Employees fill out their pledge form during the annual Campaign in the fall. One copy goes to their human resources or payroll department, while another copy goes to United Way. Payments usually begin the following January. One of the unique features of United Way, Training and support.
Training is provided to your employee volunteer through individual meetings with United Way campaign staff. In some cases, a Sponsored Employee will be assigned to your workplace to guide and assist with new ideas to ensure that your campaign is a successful one. All major campaign materials will be supplied to your coordinator.
Become an ECC
As an Employee Campaign Coordinator (ECC), you help make a difference in your workplace and your community by leading a United Way campaign in your organization. With training and support by United Way staff and Sponsored
Employees, you will:
- Learn about United Way and recruit a campaign team (1-8 people)
- Secure support and maintain direct contact with senior management, labour leaders and United Way
- Analyze, develop and implement a campaign plan
- Educate fellow volunteers and get them involved
- Launch your campaign and run special events
- Report campaign progress and final results to United Way
- Problem-solve during campaign, if required
- Thank donors, volunteers and team members
- Participate in a final evaluation of your campaign
- Have fun!
Once poverty is gone, we’ll need to build museums to display its horrors to future generations. They’ll wonder why poverty continued so long in human society – how a few people could live in luxury.
